The Cars of Fast and Furious 8 – Fate of the Furious

Honda Civics with neon underglow and fart cans were quick enough to steal DVD players off of the back of a truck, but the Fast and Furious crew needs serious hardware to chase down international terrorists.  Here are some of the cars we’ll see in Fate of the Furious.

Fast and Furious 8 Cars

In the latest installment of Fast and Furious, Dominic Toretto (Vind Diesel) betrays his family and joins forces with a terrorist group led by Cipher (Charlize Theron).

Even though the plot has gone completely off the rails, the cars still remain a primary focal point of the franchise.  Here is a look at some of the cars we’ve seen in the trailer so far.

New York

One of the scenes from the trailer is a chase through the streets of New York with the crew in hot pursuit of Dom.

With the exception of the iconic red Veilside Mazda RX7 in the first movie, Dom has always been driving American muscle cars.  This time, he will be evading his own crew in this sinister looking Plymouth GTX.

The disc brakes, wheels and overall stance are hints the GTX is a Pro-Touring car.  The engine, suspension, brakes and transmission have all been upgraded with new technology.  All the modern performance bits are hidden underneath the classic body of the car.

Chevrolet Corvette Stingray C2

Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) drives a widebody C2 Corvette through the streets of New York.

Letty’s Corvette is also a Pro-Touring car.  The actual car belongs to a gentleman named Brian Hobaugh.  Not only does the car have the looks, it has the muscle to back it up.

There is a heavily modified 364 V8 under the hood making 525hp and 500 lb-ft. of torque.  Brian actually takes it out on track and competes in autocross events regularly.

It’s well known in the Corvette community and was even featured on an episode of Big Muscle on the /Drive Network!

Subaru BRZ Widebody

This widebody Subaru BRZ will be driven by Eric Reisner, a new character played by Scott Eastwood.

The BRZ looks right at home in a Fast and Furious movie with its Rocket Bunny widebody kit.  It also has a full roll cage which is a good idea considering the how many cars have flipped in Fast and Furious movies.

Jaguar F-Type S Coupe

In the previous installment we saw Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) in an Aston Martin DB9 as well as briefly in a Jaguar F-Type.

The Jaguar makes a return in the movie with a F-Type S Coupe.  Considering how good the car looks out of the factory, it’s a good thing that they left it stock!

Mercedes-AMG GT S

Tej Parker (Ludacris) and Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel) will be chasing Dom in a Mercedes-AMG GT S.  Like the F-Type, the AMG sportscar also looks stock other than the aftermarket wheels and harpoon launcher in the front grill.

Bentley Continental GT

Roman (Tyrese Gibson) has always been the loud and flashy one of the Fast and Furious family, so a red and white Bentley Continental GT with a body kit seems to be a fitting choice for the character.

Iceland

The next big car scene takes place in Iceland.  The Fast and Furious crew is being chased on a frozen lake by bad guys with a submarine.

Dodge Ice Charger

Fast and Furious 8 Dodge ChargerThis Dodge Charger is definitely one of the craziest cars in Fast and Furious history, and that’s saying a lot.

Dubbed the Ice Charger, the car is powered by a jet engine mounted in the trunk of the car.  It makes complete sense if you’re trying to outrun a torpedo.  This is just movie magic though as the actual prop car is powered by a V8.

Driven by Dom, the Ice Charger has a widebody kit with studded ice tires wrapped around forged HRE wheels with Wilwood brakes hiding behind them.

Subaru WRX Sti

Fast and Furious 8 Subaru WRX StiThere should be an unwritten rule in Hollywood that makes it mandatory to include a Subaru in any car chase scene on loose surface conditions.

The white Subaru WRX Sti looks to be equipped with an aftermarket body kit and a huge GT wing.  It’s unclear who’s driving the car in the scene, but my guess is Eric Reisner (Scott Eastwood) since he drove the BRZ in the New York scene.

Local Motors Rally Fighter

Fast and Furious 8 Local Motors Rally FighterLetty jumps into the Local Motors Rally Fighter for the ice chase.

Local Motors uses an open-source development process utilizing designs submitted by the community.  The Rally Fighter was their first car that was completed in just 12 months using their crowd-sourcing process!

These off-road beasts has already appeared in Transformers: Age of Extinction and multiple Forza games.

Lamborghini Murcielago

Fast and Furious 8 Lamborghini MurcielagoAre you surprised that Roman (Tyrese Gibons) chose an orange Lamborghini Murcielago for a mission?  The supercar is up to the task though with a V12 putting power down to all four wheels.

Other Scenes

Dodge Challenger

Fast and Furious 8 Dodge Challenger

It’s difficult to see exactly which version of the Challenger is used in the movie.  The Hellcat is no longer in production and the regular SRT 8 seems a bit too plain.

All signs to the upcoming Challenger Demon that Dodge has been mercilessly teasing us with.  The widebody cars in the trailer appears to have the same fender flares as the Demon.

Cuban Rat Rods

Fast and Furious 8 Cuba Drag RaceDom can be seen in a Chevrolet Fleetline rat rod drag racing against a done up Ford Customline Tudor.

To  be honest my knowledge on this era of cars is very limited.  All I know is that Dom is going to take “danger to manifold” to a whole other level.  Just watch this clip:

Armored Trucks

Fast and Furious 8 Ice Ram The RockFast and Furious has become so over the top it makes Michael Bay blush.  Extended gunfights and non-stop explosions mean that rugged vehicles have become mandatory for these missions.

Hobbs (Dwyane Johnson, aka The Rock) probably can’t fit into a lot of these cars anyways so they usually have him in a badass truck.

In the Iceland scene he can be seen behind the wheels of the Ice Ram – a heavily modified Dodge Ram truck with a Mattracks conversion and armor plating.

Fast and Furious 8 Ripsaw TankIf that wasn’t hardcore enough, they now have a tank in their fleet.  Dubbed the “Ripsaw”, it has a remote controlled machine gun turret mounted on top.  With Tej Parker (Ludacris) and Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel) behind the wheel, expect a lot of vehicular carnage in this scene.

Automotive Valhalla – The Fast 8 Toy Shop

Dennis McCarthy, the Fast 8 Vehicle Coordinator dubs this room the “Automotive Valhalla”.  With over $17 Million worth of vehicles, there’s more than enough toys in this room for an entire website.

Dennis walks us through the shop in the teaser footage.  Here’s a few cars that stood out:

Right off the bat, we see a Lamborghini Gallardo Twin Turbo behind Dennis as he starts the tour.  It matches the Gallardo with Liberty Walk widebody kit on the Rotiform website featuring a set of their VDA wheels and Accuair suspension system.

Speedkore Plymouth Barracuda & Dodge Charger

Speedkore, a shop specializing in high performance Pro-Touring cars, will be providing a Plymouth Barracuda for the movie.  This is the same car that Letty drove in Furious 7.

Dennis also mentions that Speedkore’s jaw-dropping Dodge Charger from SEMA 2015 – a twin turbo 9.0L V8 monster putting out 1650hp will also be making an appearance!

Nissan IDx NISMO Concept

Fast and Furious 8 Nissan IDX NISMOPhoto Credit: Nissan USA

In 2013, Nissan showed off the IDx concept car as a spiritual successor to the Datsun 510.  At the time, affordable RWD tuner cars were making a comeback with newcomers such as the Toyota GT86/Subaru BRZ/Scion FRS and Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

Unfortunately we still have not seen any hints of production 4 years after its debut.
